(Caroline Gregory and Ella Meccia face off on the dip)

We created a poll based on some of the top performances from the 2021 Maryland State Championships. The first runner on the list was Frederick's Caroline Gregory, a sophomore, after tackling the 3A Region record with her first-place finish of 18:35.62. The second is also a sophomore, Bethesda-Chevy Chase's Varri Higgins. Higgins took the 4A State title after a time of 18:37.31 and had the second-fastest time for girls at the meet. Our third spot goes to Northern-Calvert's Ella Meccia who has had a phenomenal season as a freshman. She first ran the course at the 2021 Bull Run Invitational and won the Girls Large/Elite JV/Open race. She improved on this time to take second during the 3A Region race at states. To add, she went sub-18 for a 5K to become the third-fastest girl in the states. Our fourth athlete is Broadneck's Mollie Fenn who is currently ranked as the fourth-fastest girl in the state after a time of 18:00.30. She was also the runner-up for the 4A Region race at states. Our final girl is another freshman. This time it is Sherwood's Avery Graham who ended up finishing third in the 4A Region race at states.
