MPSSAA State Qualifying Process: The 3 Ways To Get There

As the MPSSAA Regional Championship meets are quickly approaching we wanted to share how to qualify for the state meet and post the qualifying standards.

There are three ways to qualify for states.

The first, and most preferred by athletes and coaches, is if you finish in the top 2 in your event at Regionals, you will automatically qualify.

The second way is decided by how fast the next group of runners performs. After the top 2, all other athletes in all 4 regional meets will be grouped together based on performance at the regional meet and the next 8 best performances from that group will qualify for the state meet. Those 8 may all come from 1 region or they could be spread out between the 4 regions.

The 3rd and final way to qualify is by hitting the qualifying standard below. This scenario would apply to athletes who are not part of the 16 selected per event per region based on the two scenarios above.   You must run that time (or hit that mark) AT the Regional meet. It does not count if you hit the time earlier in the season.

While it is unlikely that more than 16 would qualify for a particular event, it is possible.
