Another year of championship racing is around the corner. Maryland's 3A North region
is set to run on the 16th and 18th of May with thirteen teams coming down to Milford Mills track looking to
run fast, have fun, but most importantly qualify for the state championship meet held next Friday
and Saturday at PG County.
BOYS PREVIEW
On the boys' side, Towson's 4x800m team comes in with a seed time of 8:07.98 for this
outdoor season. This time puts them more than 7 seconds in front of the 2 nd place seed.
In the
100m, Daysen Shell from Milford Mill comes in with the fastest seed with a blistering time of
10.68, followed by Jawon Blue from Digital Harbor in 10.76.
In the 110m hurdles, Damon
Williams from Poly comes in with a seed of 15.09, followed by Jevonte Williams from Digital
Harbor in 15.11, and his teammate DeAndre Thomas in 15.15.
In the 200m, Daysen Shell from
Milford Mill comes into this race with a seed of 21.83. Following closely behind with a time of
21.98 by Jawon Blue of Digital Harbor.
In the 3200m, Towson's distance program is looking to
dominate. Towson comes in with the 3 fastest seeds with Kieran Mischke leading the charge
with a seed of 9:32.59.
In the 4x200m, Digital Harbor comes in with a seed of 1:30.00. Being the
only team to currently go under the state's standard of 1:30.97.
For shot put, Tristan Gray from
Digital Harbor comes in with the #1 mark of 47-10.00, followed by Alexander Visconti in 46-
02.50.
In high jump, Tim Kolawole from C Milton Wright comes in with a leading jump of 6-
01.00, followed by two 6-00.00 jumpers (Richard Davis from Bel Air and Casey Walker from
Kenwood).
In long jump, Jaylen Blackwell from Digital Harbor has jumped 21-07.75, so far this
season to get the #1 seed. Followed by Caden Bazemore from Bel Air with a jump of 21-00.00.
In the 1600m, Ryan Wahler from Towson comes in with a very quick time of 4:18.47. More than
8 seconds over the second-place seed.
The 400m will be a race to watch. Alpha Balde from
Digital Harbor comes in with the fastest seed time of 49.03. Three more competitors come in
with a seed under 50 seconds.
The 300m hurdles will be an exciting race with DeAndre Thomas
from Digital Harbor coming in with a seed of 38.97. Followed by his teammate Jevonte Williams
in 39.64.
The 800m is another event to watch with 5 athletes coming in with seeds under 2
minutes. Leading the charge is Ryan Wahler from Towson with a 1:55.58 and Jack Hynes from
Bel Air with a time of 1:57.02.
In the 4x100m, Milford Mill and Digital both look to compete for
the win. Milford Mill comes in with the #1 seed of 42.42, followed by Digital Harbor in 42.77.
The 4x400m will be an exciting one to watch. 6 teams coming in with a time under 3:30.
Leading the charge is Digital Harbor with a seed of 3:23.00. All of these teams are within
seconds of each other so no team can be counted out.
In pole vault, Ben Silcox from C Milton
Wright comes in with the #1 seed of 9-06.00.
In discus, Alexander Visconti from Bel Air comes
in with the #1 throw of 133-11, followed closely behind by Ricky McCall from Aberdeen with a
throw of 132-03.
In triple jump, Jaylen Blackwell from Digital Harbor has the farthest jump of
45-02.00.
GIRLS PREVIEW
On the girls' side, Edgewood comes in with a time of 10:06.80, followed by Bel Air
(10:11.60) and Towson (10:12.49).
In the 100m, Ariyah Edwards from Baltimore City College
comes in with the #1 time of 12.16, followed closely by Kenya Merritt from Digital Harbor in
12.42 and Anjela Fitzhugh from Woodlawn in 12.54.
In the 100m hurdles, 2 teammates (Zaniyah
Ali in 14.58) and (Ariyah Edwards in 14.70) from Baltimore City College come in with seed
times of under 15 seconds.
In the 200m, Nikiyah Williams from Woodlawn comes in with a
blistering time of 25.01, followed by Samiatu Yussuf from Poly in 25.25.
The 3200m will be a
race to watch. With 6 girls coming in with seeds under 12:10. Leading the pack is Ellie Bassham
with the #1 seed of 12:00.60.
In the 4x200m, Woodlawn's sprint team comes in with a comfortable
#1 seed time of 1:44.77. More than 2 seconds over the second seed.
Takyiwah Impraim-Mensah
from Edgewood comes in with the #1 seed in the pole vault with a mark of 9-00.00.
In discus, 2 girls
come in with marks over 88 feet, with the #1 seed being Catherine Connolly from Towson (88-
09), followed by Jamaya Mcdowell from Poly (88-02).
In triple jump, Azariah Jones from Poly
comes in with the #1 seed of 35-05.50. Following closely behind is Sumer Edwards from
Aberdeen with a jump of 34-06.50.
In the 1600m, Brielle Whitworth from Edgewood comes in
with the #1 seed of 5:18.94. More than 7 seconds over the second-place seed.
The 400m will be
an exciting one to watch with 3 girls coming in with a seed under 60 seconds. Nikiyah Williams
from Woodlawn is leading the charge with a blistering time of 56.43.
In the 300m hurdles,
Destiney Coleman from Woodlawn comes in with a 47.02 which is the #1 seed. Zaniyah Ali
from Poly is the 2nd seed with a time of 47.39.
The 800m will be another one to look out for.
Brielle Whitworth from Edgewood comes in with the #1 seed of 2:22.35. Following closely
behind is Gianna Dawson from Bel Air in 2:23.00 and Cecilia Van Lierop from Towson in
2:24.00.
In the 4x100m, Woodlawn's sprint team comes in being the only team to run under 49
seconds. In
the 4x400m, Towson's girls come in with a seed time of 4:12.61 which is almost 6
seconds faster than the second seed.
In shot put, Hannah Aladekoba from Milford Mill comes in
with the #1 seed with a throw of 36-08.00, followed by Jamaya Mcdowell from Poly with a
throw of 36-03.00.
In high jump, TyTiana Grandy from Baltimore City College comes in with
the #1 seed of 4-10.00. Her teammate (Logan Grant) is right behind her with a jump of 4-08.00.
6 girls jumped 4-08.00, so it will be close.
In long jump, Azariah Jones from Poly comes in with
a jump of 17-01.00 for the #1 seed. Following behind is Jaycee Greene from Digital Harbor in
16-07.75 and Sumer Edwards from Aberdeen with a jump of 16-05.00.
Team Outlook
On the team side of things, Digital Harbor's boys are looking to stack up points. They
have many of the top seeds coming into this regional meet. On the girls' side, it looks as though
City College and Woodlawn will both look to be on top. They both come in with many top seeds,
so it'll be exciting to see who will come out on top in both team battles.
