With the rain shutting down the two biggest meets in Maryland this past week (Bull Run and Georgetown Prep Classic) the only meet in the area that went forward was the Oatlands Invitational in Virginia. Several MD Teams traveled down and put up some great performances on a very wet, hilly, and slippery course.
James Partlow (Thomas Johnson) won the boy's Varsity race with a time of 15:59. The #2 ranked runner in Maryland showed that he deserved to be ranked that high! He beat several runners who have run under 15:10 in previous races this season. He will be the big favorite for the 4A State championship and a possible national berth. Maryland also represented well in the Boys B Race as Riley Gallogly (Urbana) won that race with a time of 18:19. Watch his interview below!
Team-wise, the top Maryland performance was from The Heights School who placed 4th in the field of over 40 schools. They were led by Cregan Cahill and Jack Garvey who placed 19th and 20th running 16:58 and 17:00 respectively. Winston Churchill, MD#7 currently, placed 11th. They were led by a 16:48 performance from Nathaniel Swanson who placed 17th.
On the girl's side, MD#2 runner Katherine Morey placed 5th overall with a time of 19:41. Genevieve Cowan (St. Timothy's) was close behind her in 7th place with a time of 19:49. Bethesda Chevy Chase stand out Ani Bailin ran strong, placing 14th in a time of 20:19 and Sherwood's Madeline Quirion rounded out the top 15 with a time of 20:22.
Three Maryland schools cracked the top 10 in the team standings as Bethesda Chevy Chase placed 6th, Winston Churchill 8th, and Urbana, 10th.
