Elite Race Summary of Bull Run

For the boys it was mostly an interstate battle. It was the first chance of the season to see some of the top teams face each other. River Hill and Gaithersburg were the pre-race favorites. Gaithersburg was in trouble before the race started as their #4 runner was out with a fever. River Hill looked good early, and so did Gaithersburg and Broadneck. Zach Martinez, Ryan James, and Matt Centrowitz all battled it out through a mile and half. Martinez began to open a gap at around the 2 mile mark. Teamwise River Hill was still in control, but Broadneck was making it really close. In the end Martinez won by a comfortable margin, and his teammate Ryan James followed in 2nd. A late sprint by Centrowitz brought him home in 3rd, and lead his team to a close 2nd place finish. River Hill pulled out a closer than expected win by 6 points over Broadneck.

In the girls race it was billed as CMW versus Unionville. Unionville was as strong if not stronger than most expected. Early in the race the Sinclair sisters began was to be a dominating performance. They led from start to finish, with the only challenge coming from each other. In the early stages of the race it was hard to tell which team was winning. But midway through the race a pack of 4 Unionville runners began making their way through the field. Eventually Unionville dominated the race, and an unpredicted Morgantown (who finished 2nd in the last Bull Run that was run) outscored CMW. Halsely Sinclair held off her sister Ashlyn by 4 seconds for the win.

Bull Run was a excellent day, some teams ran really well, while others including my own did not. Mike Kalisz and John Roemer deserve alot of credit for pulling this year off. Hopefully in November we will have a better day.
