New MPSSAA Outdoor Classifications and Regions Updated

Every two years the MPSSAA reclassifies its divisions based on school size. This upcoming Outdoor season is the first of a new 2-year cycle. While some of these changes were seen during the fall XC and Winter Indoor seasons, there are some minor changes specifically for the outdoor track season. We listed the teams who moved classifications below.

Also, our divisions are now updated in our rankings and virtual meet features. So, when you click 1A top times/marks you will see the updated classifications and regions. You can find those links below. They will be automatically updated when meets begin and results updated.

Quick Thoughts-

Reservoir moves up to 4A for just the Outdoor season. They were 3A for both XC and Indoor this year. The Gators always have a well-rounded team and are in contention for state titles. It will be interesting to see how they fair against 4A competition. While Woodlawn has been 4A for XC and Indoor this year, they bring one of the top girls teams in the state to the 4A Classification and will be pre-season favorites to win a state championship.

Centennial is 3A just for the outdoor season as they were 2A for XC and Indoor. The Eagles were Boys 2A State XC Champs and Runner-ups on the girls side. Also, Riley Herdson brought home an 800m State title and Marlin Newsome won the 55m Title at Indoor States. The 3A Classification is very strong this year, with Severna Park, South River, Dulaney, and Oakland Mills all joining.

Liberty is the only new 1A school reclassified. As one of the bigger schools in the 1A classification, they will look to be in contention at both Regionals and State Championships.
