Glory Days Report

This was our first time at this meet, and man was it a good one. Virginia is a traditionally strong state for track and cross country, but in my view Maryland held its own today. There bright spots throughout the day for Md. First in the girls freshman race Veronica Salcido of Wooton ran incredible to win in 19:20. In the boys JV races Northwest took 2nd in the first race and CMW took 3rd in the 2nd race and Reagan Lynch of Quince Orchard won the race. In the girls JV CMW won the division. In the boys varsity race Quince Orchard finished 3rd. In the seeded races Gaithersburg boys and CMW girls looked great. Ryan James, Zach Martinez, and Robel Mamo of Gaithersburg along with Matt Logie of Northwest and Mark Handleman of Walt Whitman all looked very strong. The Gaithersbug (4th), Northwest (7th), and Walt Whitman (10th) all ran well. In the girls seeded race CMW and Oakton battled relentlessly for 5,000 meters. It was a very exciting race to watch with each team leading at different times in the race. Oakton was fresh off of 4th place finish at Great American. Michelle Levy of Wooton and Allison Barnes of CMW ran together early both trailing Sarah Bowman and Melissa Dewey of VA. Dewey was never really challenged. Levy left Barnes at about the mile marker and got Bowman at about 2 miles. Levy looked very strong and should challenged the Sinclair twins next week at Georgetown Prep. Barnes and her CMW team mates continued to battle Oakton all the way to the line just missing them by 4 points. The Maryland girls looked very strong with CMW's Sara Bailey (9th)and Megan Ravenscraft (15th), Julie Plevin of Whitman finished (14th) Rachel Forcino of Northwest (21st), Kelli Buck of CMW (23rd), and Danielle Burcham of CMW (24th). Great job to all those who ran today.
