The first week of May brought some strong performances along with it, as athletes across the state continued to impress as the postseason inches closer.
Take a look at 10 of the many Maryland athletes who excelled over the weekend!
Top Performers:
Adam Sexton (Severn Run, 2027):
At the Katie Jenkins Invitational, Sexton swept the 100m and 200m, running 10.65 and 21.72, respectively. Both marks lead all boys in the state on the weekend, and his 10.65 is a particularly strong time at this point in the season.
Temitope Adeoye (Laurel, 2026):
Adeoye ran 11.98 in the 100m and 24.17 in the 200m at the Gar-Field Twilight Invitational, taking both events and leading all girls in the state in each on the weekend. She's ranked top-10 statewide on the season in both, too.
Arthur Wester (Clarksburg, 2027):
The junior put up a 167-10 mark in the discus at the Katie Jenkins Invitational, the top throw among boys in the state on the weekend, then added a 49-10.5 in the shot put to finish first in that event as well.
Teagan Bandholz (Poolesville, 2026):
For the seventh time this spring, Bandholz swept the throws, this time at the Katie Jenkins Invitational, posting a state-leading 44-1 in the shot put and a state-leading 130-2 in the discus to take both events on the day.
Gage Stefanick (Rising Sun, 2028):
Stefanick ran 4:22.30 in the 1600m at the Draper Invitational before returning to take the 3200m in 9:31.91, the top distance mark among boys in the state on the weekend.
Saniyah Davis (Elizabeth Seton, 2027):
One of the top hurdlers in the state, Davis ran 14.65 in the 100mH at the Queen Harrison Track Classic before returning to take the 300mH in 42.96, the fastest mark in that event among girls in the state on the weekend.
Alex Simmons (Walkersville, 2027):
Simmons ran 10.86 in the 100m and 22.29 in the 200m at the Small School CMC Championship, then added a 22-5.5 in the long jump to take that event as well.
Alejandra Williams (C.H. Flowers, 2026):
Williams clocked a 14.22 in the 100mH at the PGCPS Tune-Up, the fastest mark among girls in the state on the weekend by a significant margin over the rest of the field.
Daniel Apiou (Clear Spring, 2027):
Apiou won the triple jump at 45-3.25 and the high jump at 6-6 at the Small School CMC Championship, then added a 14.89 in the 110mH to finish runner-up.
Amelia Avila (Our Lady of Good Counsel, 2027):
Avila competed in the 1600m at the Dogwood Track Classic, crossing in 4:44.07, the top mark among girls in the state on the weekend by more than 25 seconds.
