Maryland's underclassmen made their presence felt at the MPSSAA Outdoor Track Championship last week.
Here's a look at two girls and boys who stood out.
Finishing runner-up in both the 100m (12.17) and the 200m (24.79) at 24.79 at the MPSSAA Outdoor Track Championship, Flowers was one of the top sprinters on either side over the weekend, and arguably the top underclassmen sprinter all-around.
Devaughn reached the podium in two events at the MPSSAA Outdoor Track Championship, finishing fourth in the 100m after clocking 10.84 and fifth in the 110mH, running 14.54. The sophomore also broke 40 seconds in the 300mH for the first time in his career, running 39.89 to finish seventh.
Winning the 1600m in 5:04.95 and the 3200m in 10:44.31 at the MPSSAA Outdoor Track Championship, Philp swept both distance titles as a freshman. She also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 800m, notching a trio of 3A medals in her first trip to the state championships.
Pierre won the 300mH in 39.18 at the MPSSAA Outdoor Track Championship, the fastest mark in that event among all underclassmen boys at the championship meet, and added a 15.84 in the 110mH, finishing sixth in the final.
