Hunt Valley, Md. – Junior Britta Nelson (Havre deGrace H.S./Havre deGrace, Md.) won the individual championship and led five Tiger runners who finished in the top ten as the Tiger women’s team won its second straight Baltimore Metro Championship at Oregon Ridge Park on Saturday.

Nelson, a transfer from UMBC, won the women’s race in a time of 18:37 as she edged teammate Megan Lerch (Kingsway Regional H.S./Mullica Hill, N.J.), the defending Metro champion, for the title. An All-Colonial Athletic Association runner last season, Lerch finished second with a time of 18:58.

Senior Michelle Henschel (Island Trees H.S./Levittown, Md.) of Towson finished fifth while sophomore Janelle Thompson (Poolesville H.S./Poolesville, Md.) ran seventh. Junior Jessica Reitz (Long Reach H.S./Columbia, Md.) took tenth place as the Tigers won their seventh Baltimore Metro championship for Coach Roger Erricker.

Junior Sandy Bowe-Maliszewski finished 13th in the race for the Tigers while junior Kristen Del Balzo was 14th.

Senior Angela Kaon (Bridgewater-Raritan H.S./Bridgewater, N.J.) led Johns Hopkins to a second place showing by finishing third in the race with a time of 19:42.

Towson won the meet with 25 points while Hopkins was runner-up with 32 points. McDaniel College finished third.

Senior Paul Hugus (Loch Raven H.S./Baltimore, Md.) of McDaniel College won the men’s race as McDaniel shared the men’s championship with Johns Hopkins University.
