The power went off at the UMES Coach O Invitational on Saturday to interrupt the meet temporarily, but meet management did not need to call in a electrician to restore the power to the facility. All they had to do was call on Western Branch senior Jeffrey Artis (pictured right by John Herzog) and a US #1 mark in the triple jump to electrify the building. "It was on my last jump. We had four jumps, but unfortunately the power went out during my first two jumps, but the power came back on for my third and fourth." Talk about poise. Despite the annoyance of the power outage, Artis leaped to a national leading mark in the triple jump of 49'0.75". He bettered the previous US #1 mark by a whole foot with his performance.
