Partly cloudy and 70 degrees, it was the perfect day for an invitational at South Carroll High School's excellent 5K course.
Seniors Matthew Centrowitz (Broadneck) and Katie Hursey(North Carroll) ran to expected victories, although Hursey didn't boast the 58 second lead Centrowitz put on Francis Scott Key's Jared Welsh and Arthur Leathers. Senior Malik Zafar of Meade beat out junior Dylan Bernard of Urbana for fourth place in the boys A race.
North Carroll's Katie Hursey
Senior Liz McCarter of Mount Hebron placed a surprise second over sophomore Kelsey Hill of Severna Park, who had beaten her at the Howard County Invitational two weeks ago. Senior Angeli Sivaraman of Centennial ran an impressive race to finish in fourth place. Freshman Sadie Dempsey of Severna Park took fifth. The Broadneck boys were no match for FSK's field sweeping top four. Even with a straggling fifth runner, FSK put 11 points on Broadneck 61-72. Urbana was third with 115. The Severna Park girls dominated the field, running only half of their varsity team to claim a score of 58. Urbana was way back with 121, but it was enough to hold of Broadneck's 124.
Full meet results are up.
