Lots of national attention has been given to Florida's Tyrese Cooper and Georgia's Brian Herron, phenomenal freshmen sprinters, setting national class records, in particular at the 400 meter distance. Well Maryland might have a ninth grader as well in the same category with DeMatha Catholic's Nick Wilson.
Wilson traveled to West Virginia this weekend to compete with his DeMatha Catholic squad at the Marshall University High School Indoor Meet and ran a new personal best 400 meter time of 48.56 to finish second behind only Chantz Sawyers of High Point Point Christian Academy in North Carolina. The performance ranks Wilson US #20 indoors in the event and third among freshmen behind Herron at 47.39 and Cooper at 47.97.
Wilson had won the Private Schools Invitational 500 earlier this season in 1:08.01, which essentially could be considered the defacto indoor state meet for Maryland/DC private schools. Can watch Wilson's win from that meet above.
