Expect a close race to kick off the 2016 Maryland State Championships in the 1A girls 4x800 meter relay between squads from the Patterson Mill and Boonsboro. Only two seconds separate their season best times with the Patterson Mill girls dipping under 10 minutes to win the UCBAC title in 9:58.87, while the Boonsboro girls turned in a 10:00.30 performance earlier in May in a dual meet.
If Haley Wright is running anchor leg for Boonsboro, Patterson Mill better have a gap to work with since Wright has run 2:21 in the open 800, but can split well under 2:20 if need be in a relay. Kate Eckart is Patterson Mill's top leg with a 2:24 season best in the open 800 this spring. The Boonsboro girls were the state champions indoors in this event at 10:17.80, while Smithsburg was second in 10:22.43.
