There's nothing wrong with a little tune-up. Especially if it leads to a season best performance.
Franklin senior Nyjari McNeil was coming off of a state meet performance that included two individual titles, a relay title, two state meet records and one team championship. This weekend she will compete in New York City at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. And between it all she found time to set a new season best in the 800.
She did it while running unattached at the PVA Youth Invitational held at the Sportsplex in Landover. McNeil blew away the 17-18 year old field in the event, crossing the line in 2:12.69 - just off of her 2:12.15 indoor personal best from indoor nationals in 2016. The performance sits as the 12th-fastest in the United States this year. Next up: the Championship 800 and 4x400 relay at nationals this weekend.
