Brandon Nichols of Kent Island developed into one of the best distance runners from the Maryland Eastern Shore over recent years. His highlight performance certainly came in winning the 2A boys 1600 meter state title indoors in an upset victory over Calvert's Justin Diehl this past February. Nichols finished out his senior year with PR's of 1:58 in the 800, 4:21 in the 1600, and 9:36 in the 3200. He won a grand total of 10 Bayside Conference titles individually between cross country and track. Nichols transitions next to competing for Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
My most memorable race was this indoor season at states when I won the 1600m for 2a.
My biggest competition the past 4 years has been my teammate Erick Sanchez. Training everyday and racing every week together has involved a lot of back and forth competition.
My greatest accomplishment was again winning the indoor 1600m title for 2a.
If I could do it all over again I wouldn't change anything I believe my high school running career has prepared me well for college.
Some of the most difficult obstacles I've had to overcome have been injuries but the biggest obstacle by far has been trying to stay motivated through all the pain of training and preparing for races.
Something I'll miss the most is all of my teammates at Kent Island High School I've trained with the past 4 years.
Advice I'd give to younger athletes is to always stay focused and determined on your goals and do everything you can to stay motivated to reach those goals.
My coaches have taught me everything I know about running from proper form to racing tactics to staying motivated.
My college plans are to attend Mount Saint Mary's University and continue running cross country and track.
I'd like to thank all of my teammates, coaches, and everyone I've raced in the last 4 years of high school. I wouldn't be the runner/person I am today without you.
