The Southern Maryland Track Classic meet record in the event was set just three years ago by Nansemond River's Brandee Johnson, but it may not hold up for much longer. Blake junior Serena Harrison is entered in her first 500 since a runner-up, 1:15.00 effort at last year's 3A state championships; she is also the defending champion in the event. Among her challengers will be Bullis' Nia Frederick who ran 2:14 as a freshman last spring, and Hanover's Makenzie Joiner who was last year's VHSL 4A indoor runner-up as a sophomore.
