A quick first section - three girls under 2:20, led by Severna Park's Sophia Zell at 2:18.57, meant there was very little wiggle room in the fast heat. The final race brought a battle between two sophomores, Urbana's Ella Auderset and Wise's Jordan Mozie, who had proven two of the most versatile athletes in the entire state. Mozie had earlier finished fourth in the 400 meter dash while Auderset had taken a fall during the final stretch and was seeking redemption. Auderset took the group out in a leisurely 1:11 first 400, and the final stretch turned into a shoulder-to-shoulder sprint between the two sophomores. Auderset ultimately edged Mozie at the line by just one hundredth of a second.
