Name: Mason Scott

School: Oakdale

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment? Why is that?

My 110 hurdle race this year at the state championship meet because I got a new pr, placed second, broke our school record, and qualified for new balance nationals all in one race.

Was there a certain moment or breakthrough race/meet when you realized you would be able to compete at a high level?

The Don Boyer invitational when I finally began running low 15s in the 110 and eventually in the 14s was my breakout meet this year

What are some bumps in the road that you've encountered when it comes to training for different events during the season?

COVID was the biggest obstacle this year, after I tested positive it took a few weeks to get back on track to being fully healthy and in shape

If you are writing a letter to your younger freshman self, what advice might you give them?

Stuck with it and work hard. This sport is so much more about the work you put in and less about natural talent than I ever thought it was, hard work will get you very far in track and life in general

What are your post-high school or college plans? If Running in college, explain why you picked that school.
Im attending the University of Maryland for academics and specifically the computer science program, and I am going to try and walk on to the track team but if I don't make it I'll run on the club team at the school and work to hopefully earn a spot next year

What is your favorite pre-race snack, tradition, etc.?

My favorite pre-race snack is a peanut butter Clif bar with water

Name the top Maryland Cross Country or Track moment(s) you have witnessed. Could be by the level of greatness or just something that really stood out to you.

The greatest moments I've witnessed have been my freshman and sophomore seasons when I watched Kyle Lund lead our team to 4 consecutive state championships.

Who would you like to say "thank you" to?

I would like to say thank you to my parents and teammates for being supportive and pushing me but I'd especially like to thank Coach Beard and Coach Lillard for getting me to run track and hurdle in the first place and teaching me to push myself and in then help push those around me.
