Salute to Seniors:Calvert Hall Distance Runner Charlie Dance

Name: Charlie Dance

School: Calvert Hall

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment? Why is that?

The most memorable race would have to be the outdoor nationals DMR.

Was there a certain moment or breakthrough race/meet when you realized you would be able to compete at a high level?

The MIAA indoor mile was a real breakthrough for me.

What are some bumps in the road that you've encountered when it comes to training for different events during the season?

We had some coaching uncertainty and on top of Covid it was stressful for all of us but we managed to overcome those things

If you are writing a letter to your younger freshman self, what advice might you give them?

I would tell him to believe in his own abilities and trust the process

If you had to pick: Track and Field or Cross Country, and why? (If you only run Track, then don't worry about explaining why).

In my sophomore year, I would have said xc because of the group aspect and being able to conquer a race together but now I would say track because I feel that relays are so amazing to be a part of and when everyone works together and we all succeed it is like nothing else

What are your post-high school or college plans? If Running in college, explain why you picked that school.

I will be continuing at Radford university, I chose this school because it is an awesome location and the guys are really cool but the main factor was the coaching, from what I came away with they really know what they're doing and I can see the coaches vision for me and the team

What is your favorite pre-race snack, tradition, etc.?

I can get down to some sun butter on toast with a Gatorade

Name the top Maryland Cross Country or Track moment(s) you have witnessed. Could be by the level of greatness or just something that really stood out to you.

It would definitely be the Millrose games of 2020. Ellie Purrier, Nico Young, Geordie Beamish, and Donavan Braisers 800 were insane to watch.

Who would you like to say "thank you" to?

I would like to say thank you to coach Frien because without him instilling the drive to be a runner I would have not been where I am today

Is there anything else you would like to mention that stands out over the past 4 years?

Shout out to coach Scott baker he deserves more credit and was an amazing coach, his belief in me is what gave me the confidence to work harder and make those moves in the tough moments
