Salute to Seniors: Huntingtown Jumper Natalie Borowski

Name: Natalie Borowski

School: Huntingtown HS

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment? Why is that?

I went to our state meet my freshman year outdoor season after just hitting a pr of 5 ft for high at the 3A south region meet. This meant that I was the only freshman girl on our team that qualified for the state meet.

Was there a certain moment or breakthrough race/meet when you realized you would be able to compete at a high level?

In my sophomore indoor track season; I placed 4th at the CNU invitational down in Virginia Beach against some of the best girls in the area, including the seniors.

What are some bumps in the road that you've encountered when it comes to training for different events during the season?

I suffered a long-lasting hip injury which required physical therapy for almost 6 months as well as a strain in my Achilles where I had to plan my training around what days my body would be able to function properly. Covid didn't help either, delaying our seasons and changing the qualifying standards for certain meets to meet capacity standards.

If you are writing a letter to your younger freshman self, what advice might you give them?

Don't be scared to take criticism, it's so beneficial in the long run.

If you had to pick: Track and Field or Cross Country, and why? (If you only run Track, then don't worry about explaining why).

Track and Field, I've done high jump for the past 7 years so it's something I'm skilled at and better at in general. Plus the meets and invitationals are so much more hyped up in general.

What are your post-high school or college plans? If Running in college, explain why you picked that school.

Going to Towson University to major in kinesiology and hopefully find a club track team.

What is your favorite pre-race snack, tradition, etc.?

A bag of cucumber slices, fruit snacks, and a stick of mint gum.

Name the top Maryland Cross Country or Track moment(s) you have witnessed. Could be by the level of greatness or just something that really stood out to you.

Watching the Huntingtown boys team win indoor state 2 times in a row, especially when they lost some of their best team members. Also watching Sam Starrs beating the MD all-state record for pole vault especially because our region doesn't have pole vault.

Who would you like to say "thank you" to?

First I would like to say thank you to my family for being my biggest fan section and always coming to my meets regardless of how I placed. Both my xc coach; Coach Deb, and my jumping coach; Coach Henshaw, played vital roles in my success as an athlete and my love for the sport. And finally, I'd like to thank Allie and Sara for being my fav high jump competitors; especially when we took top 3 at regions!

Is there anything else you would like to mention that stands out over the past 4 years?

How absolutely nice the high jump official was and remembered seeing me from my first state meet freshman year, to my last state meet at the end of my senior year.
