Team Preview - Thomas Wootton comes into the meet as the favorite. They have won several competitive meets this year including Bull Run, Oatlands, Moco Championships, and the 4A West Regionals. They have 5 very strong girls who should place in the top 20-30 of the race and work really well together running as a pack. The race for second will be between Severna Park and Walter Johnson. Severna Park started off the year strong winning the Seahawk Invitational and has ended the year the same way winning the Anne Arundel Championship and 4A East Regional. They sat their top runner, Cameron Glebocki at Regionals and still won. Walter Johnson finished second behind Wootton at the 4A West Regional and is no stranger to high expectations at the State Meet. They are very well-coached and will no doubt have a great game plan coming into the race. Dulaney won the 4A North Regional and will look to try to crack into the top 3.

Individual Preview - MD # 3 Varri Higgins (Bethesda Chevy Chase) comes into the race as the favorite. She has looked great in her last three races winning the Gunpowder Falls Invite, Montgomery County Championship, and the 4A West Regional. In each race, she has not been pushed during the last mile and may not be pushed at States either. Grace Finnegan (Richard Montgomery), Avery Graham (Sherwood), Alexa Avila (Montgomery Blair), Cameron Glebocki (Severna Park), and Elena Blodnikar (Leonardtown) Will all try to pull the upset for the individual win. All of these girls have had excellent seasons and it would not be a surprise for any of them to finish second in the state.
