Athletes and spectators were able to experience all types of weather at the Pikesville Track Classic. Rain was present for the first few hours of the meet as athletes tried their best to stay as dry as they could. The rain was a mix of light showers that would transition suddenly into a downpour. However, around noon, the sun came out and the temperatures rose to around 70 degrees which made for a great second half of the day.

Men's events

Sprints

Milford Mills Daysen Shell threw down an impressive performance today, winning both the 100 (10.75) and 200m (21.91) dashes. Shell's 100 time puts him at the MD #5 spot currently while his 200 allowed him to grab the MD #4. In the 400m dash, Bel Air senior Jack Hynes ran a time of 49.64 seconds, Hynes earns his spot as the current MD #2 for the 400m dash. When the hurdles were added to the track, Howard's own Christian Do had an absolute field day, winning both the 110 and 300 hurdles (after comfortably qualifying with a win in the prelims) with times of 14.57 and 39.97 respectively. Do sits at the MD #4 spot for the 110 hurdles and the MD #7 spot for the 300m hurdles. The Howard boys also took home the 4x200m relay win in 1:31.80, beating out Calvert (1:32.10) and McDonough (1:32.30). The McDonough squad went on to place 2nd in the boys 4x100m relay with a time of 44.13 seconds. However, just .11 seconds beforehand was the Dundalk boys finishing with a time of 44.02.

Winning by over 10 seconds in the 4x400m relay would be Franklin at 3:29.64, beating out Dunbar (3:39.60) and Westminster (3:47.44) and earning a new MD #8. During the indoor season however, we saw the Westminster sprint squad emerge out of nowhere with athletes such as Edwin Alfaro, Cameron Rucker, and Garrett Boag in the sprint events, no doubt that the Owls are one team to watch this season.

Distance

Today's distance running started off with a win from the Towson squad in the 4x800m relay. The Towson boys ran a state-leading 8:09. What's more impressive than the time was the fact that they did it in the rain during the early part of the meet. Look for this time to drop as the season continues and they get the chance to compete in better weather. Close behind and sitting at the MD #4 spot was the Calvert Hall relay team at 8:15.86. In regards to the individual distance events, Dulaney grabbed 30 points with a 1600/800 double win by Tyler Dailey and a 3200m win by Nikhil Manickam (9:45.49). Dailey, the 4x state champ, ran a 1:56.87 in the 800 to set a new MD #1 mark. There are now 10 people who have run sub 2 in the state and with some of the top athletes yet to run, this should be an exciting event to watch in Maryland as the season continues. Towson continues to be one of the most promising distance teams in Maryland with notable athletes such as Kieran Mischke (9:47.10 3200m) and Ryan Wahler (4:26.16 1600m)

Field

It was quite the day for field events especially, Chimdy Onoh (Dundalk) improved on his MD #1 mark in the shot put as he threw over 60 feet, at 60-2, easily winning the event. That toss currently ranks him 18 in the country. His PR is 61-4 last year at the 4A North Regionals. Onoh also won the discus throw in 145 feet and 6.5 inches to grab the MD #4 spot. Not only that, Jack Wachter (Loyola Blakefield) set a new MD #1 in the Pole Vault clearing 14 feet. This was a 1 foot PR for Wachter. Myles Taylor of Franklin set a new MD #3 in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet and 4 inches, exactly one foot ahead of the rest of the competition.

McDonogh's sprint team had 1st place written all across the board today, wins from Elise Cooper in the 100m (11.71, MD#2) and a DEVASTATING win in the 200m dash by nearly 3 seconds. Cooper ran away for the easy win with an MD #1 time of 23.56, almost a full second faster than the next fastest time this year. Her time currently ranks her 4th in the nation. Her sister Ella Cooper grabbed a win in the 400m dash with a time of 58.94 seconds, she and runner-up Gianna Dawson of Bel Air (59.64) were the only two runners to go under 60 seconds today. To add to their dominance, Mcdonogh's Kelsey Coley took home the gold in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.94 (only sub-15 performance today) beating out Zion Pittman of Western (15.24). However, Pittman cannot be counted out as she ran 45.17 for the 300m hurdles, which leads the state, and is a full second faster than the next athlete and a whopping 5 seconds faster than the runner-ups at the meet today.

No Suprise that the McDonogh girls took home the victory today with 88 points, nearly 30 points ahead of runner-up Westminster. This is a great start to the season for the McDonogh girls who are on track to dominate the private school scene this season. On the men's side, Dundalk took home the team title with 50 points, runner-ups included Dulaney and La Plata.
