The official 2023 MPSSAA Outdoor Track season came to a close at the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex. Starting on Friday with the preliminary events and closing on Saturday afternoon, fans, coaches, and athletes of all trades packed the stadium. Oakland Mills took home both team titles with impressive wins!

BOYS

The boys, like they have all year, put on a show, scoring 139 points, 92 points more than runner-up Glenelg. The Scorpions took home 8 gold medals. Shane King was a double individual winner as he won the 100 (10.96) and the 200 (21.91), Adbur Hassan in the 300m Hurdles (38.97), Xavier Doctor in the 400 (48.29), and Ethan Adiam in the 3200 (9:35) They also won all three sprint relays. The 4x100 in 42.03, 4x200 in 1:27.77, and 4x400 in 3:22.25. Their 4x100 time is a new 2A State Record.

Oakland Mills won in a similar fashion last year and has been a dominant force in 2A. While they lose a lot to graduation this year they still bring back a young talented team of sprinters to hopefully carry the torch. They will have to do that in the 3A Classification next year.

Tyler Edson ran one of the fastest 800m times in 2A history as he ran 1:54.11 for the 2A win. He also helped lead his 4x800 team to a state win, running 7:59.

Ruichen He took home gold and a new state record in the discus. His toss of 172-00 feet was easily the best mark, beating Darius Grimes (Frederick Douglass-PG) by almost 20 feet.

Along with He winning shot, runner-up Glenelg got 10 more points from Siji Jolaemi in the Long Jump as he jumped 21-09 for the win.

GIRLS

Oakland Mills Girls were equally as impressive, winning their second team state championship in as many years. They have a lot of depth in the sprinting events which led them to take home gold medal wins in the 4x100 Relay (49.55) and 4x200 Relay (1:42.07).  Alicia Hall won the triple jump with a jump of 37-08.25.

Tressia Davis (Friendly) stole the show on the individual side as she swept all three sprint events. She won the 100 in 12.32, the 200 in 24.96, and the 400 in 55.12. She also was a part of her 4x200 team that placed second. As only a sophomore look for her to make a statement in state meets to come!

In the Distance events, Temi Ariyo (Overlea) shined as she won both the 1600 and 3200 times. She went undefeated in 2A competitions this Indoor and Outdoor season in those events.

Reese Delp (Kent Island) had a breakthrough race in the 800 as she ran 2:13 for the win, the op time out of all four classifications.

Ava Allen (Middleton) raised the overall state record in the Pole Vault as she cleared 12-07, 3 inches higher than the previous record of 12-04.

The girl's High Jump witnessed the top two jumps in the state so far this season as Hailey Eliott (Wicomico) and Valerie Ashamu (Oakland Mills) both cleared 5-06. Eliott took home gold in tiebreakers.
