Quick Day 1 Recap!

State Meet Day 1 Recap

What a great day for Maryland Indoor Track...with possibly an even better one to come tomorrow! Today saw blazing times between some of Maryland\'s fiercest competitors. Mdrunners.com would like to offer up it\'s choices for athletes of the meet...

Girls 1A-2A: Meghan Rose Rose of Poolesville completely and utterly dominated the middle distance events. She won the 300m in 40.91 (A 1A state record and fastest time of the day), the 500m in 1:18.94, and the 800m in 2:23.65. No one in 1a/2a girls captured more than one individual state title. Rose was in a league of her own.
Girls 2A-3A: Keely Murphy and Alexis Booker Murphy of Northern ran 5:08.12 in the 1600m, barely edging out Michelle Donadio by .04 of a second. In the process, she beat the 2A state record set in 2003. Murphy also picked up a bronze medal in the 800 with a time of 2:24.33, missing out on the silver by .01 of a second. Booker of Freindly won the 55 dash in 7.24, and picked up a silver medal in the 300m with a time of 41.63. However, Murphy\'s Northern of Calvert edged out Booker\'s Freindly 30-28, good for 4th and 5th place, respectively.
Boys 1A-2A: Christopher Anderson Christopher Anderson of Forestville scored 28 points for his team, leading them to the 1A-2A state championship. To start the day, he finished 2nd in the 1600m behind Arumugam of N Hagerstown, running 4:34.41. He then won the 500m in 1:08.27. To cap off his fantastic day, he ran the fastest 800 time of the day, winning in 2:00.52. 28 points for 1A-2A Champs Forestville!

Boys 3A-2A: Atholton Distance It would be impossible to say one of them was the best at the meet today. Despite Andrew Revelle\'s two victories in the 800m (2:01) and 1600m (4:26), freshman Graham Bazell may have put up the most spectacular time of the day. He ran 9:48.81, a mere second of victor Travis Boccher\'s time (Wilde Lake, 9:47.78)

Congratulations to the Central Girls (1A-2A), Linganore Girls (2A-3A), Forestville Boys (1A-2A), and Atholton Boys (2A-3A) for winning state championships!
