Linganore HS participated in the Bald Eagle Invitational in Lock Haven, PA on Friday night, and did a fantastic job. They finished 2nd, garnering 114 points, only 6 points behind the winning team. Linganore\'s women really packed a punch, successful behind wins from Chowan Brightful in the 100m H (16.17), a meet record 57.83 400m from Melissa Turowski in the 400m, and from freshman Amanda Yates in the Long Jump (16-09.25).
Linganore also won the 4x1 (50.08) and 4x4 (4:07) relays.
Linganore had other medal winners, including a bronze from Lauren Quinn in the 200m (26.22), silver (Natalie Goodman - 36-00.25) and bronze (Chowan Brightful - 33-07.25) in the triple jump, and another Bright silver medal with a 5 foot high jump. Kim Maley rounded out Linganore\'s top 3 finishers, getting a bronze in the shotput with a throw of 34 feet, 0.25 inches. All in all, Linganore did an amazing job against out of state teams. Way to go Lancers!
The Freddie Hendricks Track Fest featured some of the area\'s top runners, including very good teams from Pennsylvania and Virginia. Some great times, jumps, and throws were recorded, most notably a 4:03 1500m by Dwight Parker and 2 jumping victories by Jason Gross...
As most Maryland students got some much needed rest over Spring Break this week, a number of dedicated teams and athletes still took part in meets on Saturday. Since the results from Freddie Hendricks have not come in yet, this review will only cover the Heurich Invite and the Peninsula Relays. When the aforementioned results come in, this review will be updated...
The 6th annual Woodlawn Warrior T&F Invitational will host a lot of new teams and see a lot of new faces. Exactly what meet management was hoping for this year. Often when teams are looking for an invitational, they want to see who has competed there before and how was the competition. Well, if you look at the meet records and past results then one has to put the Woodlawn Invite on their schedule.
Quality results coupled by a good mix of competition have always been the signature of this annual spring event. The 2006 edition may live up to those expectations. A total of 36 teams will compete at Woodlawn bringing over 900 athletes to the Baltimore County community.
This was an exciting weekend for the state of Maryland! It featured a new meet (Pikesville Track Classic), a cool new event (1500m Steeple at Woodward Relays), the return of a star (Alison Smith - 2:18 800 at PTC), and many meet records (Jeremy Samuels - DeMatha 48.26 400m MRW Meet; Warren Gray, Oxon Hill 46-9.25 Triple MRW, Christy Johnson - Bryn Mawr - 4:59.86 1600m MRW) to name three. Maryland even dominated many events at a Northern Virginia meet! Read on for summaries!
