The Walter Johnson girls were the state's dominant program last fall in cross country winning the 4A state title by a decisive margin of 40 points as well as Maryland's top finishing squad at NXN Southeast. Returning 5 of their top 7 runners, their position still remains the same as the team to beat and favorite in 4A. Abbey Green, Emily Murphy, and Kati Kirsch are all returning top 10 individual finishers from last year's state race at Hereford for the Lady Wildcats.
Dulaney, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, and Walt Whitman are several of the contending teams in 4A expected to be giving chase to Walter Johnson this fall. Both Dulaney and Bethesda-Chevy Chase return a strong core from their lineups last fall who finished well at the state meet with Dulaney finishing fourth and Bethesda-Chevy Chase as the runners-up. Walt Whitman (10th in the 2014 state race) should take a big leap with the addition of Sami King transferring back to the school to be one one of the top individual runners in 4A.
