The Smithsburg boys with two state champion caliber individuals in Micah Daigneault and Will Merritt make them the favorites and top seeds, but several teams are within striking distance including Bohemia Manor at a season best of 8:29.23.
Smithsburg ran their fastest time of the season at the 1A West Regional with a 8:25.83 performance. With Merritt running the 3200 later on Friday, they may have him open up on first leg to give him more rest and then let Daigneault and his 1:58 open 800 PR close it out on anchor leg.
Other top legs to watch in this race include Anthony Glasgow of Fairmont Heights (1:56 PR), Matt Koletsky of Cambridge-South Dorchester (2:00), and 1A West Regional champ Devn Hamrick of Southern Garrett (2:00).
The North Carroll boys also cannot be counted out after surprisingly all indoors in winning the state title at PG. This is the final year that the school is open, so they will see if they can go out on top as champions again.
