After a bit of an underwhelming start to his senior season, Poolesville's Ryan Lockett turned in a season best performance last weekend at the DCXC Invitational, finishing third in the senior boys' race. Last year's 3A state champion may benefit from moving down to the 2A classification this season, where he is the only boy to have gone under the 16 minute barrier so far this season.

Two of Lockett's biggest challengers will come from the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference, and are the two top returning runners from last year's 2A state championship. Calvert's Justin Diehl was last year's runner-up as a sophomore, and beat Lockett at the Oatlands Invitational in September (where he was the third Maryland finisher). Westlake's Jay Hall finished fourth at the 2A state championships last year and has finished in the top ten at every race this year.
