This Decade in Review: Top 500 Boys in the 1600

One of Maryland's most decorated distance runners over the course of the decade, Perry Hall's Vincent Ciattei was the only boy to break the 4:15 mark in the 1600 indoors. His 4:14.61 time from the 2013 4A state meet is still the indoor state meet record by nearly three seconds (Heydrick's time is second-best). Ciattei was a six-time individual state champion who went on to stand out at Virginia Tech - as a senior in 2018, he was the NCAA DI runner-up in both the indoor mile and the outdoor 1500.

Walter Johnson's Rodrigo Yepez-Lopez (right) had one of the best out-of-nowhere seasons in the 1600 of the decade. The year before he had run 9:32 in the 3200, but he had yet to run faster than 4:32 entering his senior indoor season. That year he first broke 4:30 at the Montgomery Invitational (4:24 in the full mile), then went on to run under 4:20 at the state meet, finishing second and finishing as one of just seven boys to run under that mark at the indoor state meet this decade.
