One of the top distance runners in modern Prince George's County track and field history, Charde Barnes was the first girl to break the 12-minute barrier in the 3200 at the Ed Bowie Classic. She was still the only girl to break that barrier three years later when Annapolis' Maria Coffin burst through and ran a solo 11:26 3200, a mark that has not been approached in Ed Bowie Classic history. Last year, Winters Mill's Kathryn Hopkins became just the third girl to crack 12 minutes. Barnes is also one of just four girls in meet history to break 5:30 in the 1600.
