Barnhardt Invitational Preview

This weekend's Barnhardt Invite at Dulaney features many of Baltimore County's top runners and teams and also a few select Harford County and private schools in the area. The course has plenty of turns and a few hills that are strategically placed that is sure to zap any energy that a runner may have left. The new starting area behind the track allows for a much longer sprint before the runners have to squeeze between a fence and a grove of trees.

The boys race is a tossup among a large group of contenders. The lead pack could have 10 runners throughout the race with no one having a distinct advantage at this early season meet. Woodlawn's Dwight Parker comes in with the best credentials, but raced hard over the summer and might be relaxing on his training at this point of the season. Dulaney's duo of Vince Walsh and Matt Bond have been inseperable since last outdoor season and are sure to be near the lead on their home course. Bel Air's Brett Kelly is his teams lone returnee from the powerhouse team of last year, but should challenge throughout the race. Perry Hall will also contribute two to the lead pack with last year's 6th place finisher Jesse Jaeger and also Adam Sierakowski who has made a huge improvement over the summer. Parkville's Arsalan Ansari is looking to show that his strong race last week at Towson was no fluke and will be hanging with the leaders throughout the race.

The team race belongs to Dulaney, but second place will be interesting. Will Perry Hall's 3-5 runners be able to stay with Hereford's 2-5 pack.

The girls race should belong to Lauren Capone of Towson. Sarah Zader of Bel Air, Sara Cimino, Kelly Rush, Katie Askins and Chrissie Shoemaker of Dulaney will all be with the leaders as well at Mt. De Sales top runners which always bring a strong team to the meet. Catonsville have a strong top two with Erin Walters and Hannah Pfeiffer showing that they can hang with the leaders. Hereford has Val Steen, Sarah McCausland and Sarah Randall plus a strong supporting group. Amy Morlock of Perry Hall will also be in the top pack.

The team race once again is Dulaney with second coming between Bel Air, Mt de Sales, Catonsville, Hereford and Perry Hall
