2023 Maryland Girls Cross Country Team Power Rankings: #7-8

#7 Centennial High

2022 State Finish - 6th (3A)

2022 Regional Finish - 1st (3A East)

2022 County Finish - 1st (Howard)

Key Losses - None

Key Returners - Riley Herdson Emily Graff

Outlook - Centennial did not graduate anyone from last year's team and will look to continue to build. They move to 2A and will be Hereford's biggest challenger for the state title. Riley Herdson emerged last track season as an elite runner as she ran 5:05 for the mile and will look to carry that success to the longer distance.

#8 Walter Johnson

2022 State Finish - 2nd (4A)

2022 Regional Finish - 2nd (4A West)

2022 County Finish - 4th (Montgomery)

Key Losses - None

Key Returners - Madeleine Simmons Mackenzie Raue

Outlook - The Wildcats are always in the conversation each year for the top team in 4A, and one of the best in the state. They return another strong team led by Madeleine Simmons and Mackenzie Raue who have run 19:21 and 19:46 for 5k respectively. They also have a solid 3-4 in Carolyn Hultman and Zuzana Huserova who have run sub 21 for 5k. Look for WJ to be at the top of all meets they compete at this year.
