2023 Maryland Girls Cross Country Team Power Rankings: #1-2

#1 Severna Park

2022 State Finish - 1st (4A)

2022 Regional Finish - 1st (4A South)

2022 County Finish - 1st (Anne Arundel)

Key Losses - Cameron Glebocki

Key Returners - Kayle Jenish and Rebecca Jimeno

OutlookThe Falcons will try to repeat last year's state championship run after upsetting Thomas S. Wootton to win the 4A State Championship. They will drop down to 3A this year (along with Wootton), which should set up some great competition in that classification. While they lose their top runner from last year, Cameron Glebocki, they return their next 11. Their top 7 returners all ran between 20 and 21 minutes last year for 5k, and many of them made big improvements during the spring track season. They are easily the deepest team in Maryland this year and will use that to their advantage during the season.

#2 McDonogh

2022 IAAM Finish - 1st

Key Losses - Sophia Bredar

Key Returners - Mary Gorsky and Zewdi Tesfayohannes

Outlook -The Eagles return top runner Mary Gorsky who ran 19:30 for 5k last year and will look to improve on that for this upcoming season. They also return 6 girls who have run under 21 minutes for 5k and will also look to improve on that and dip under the 20min barrier. They will be big favorites for the IAAM title and will look to try to make their case for the best team in the state this season.
