BOYS SMALL PREVIEW
Ranked Teams Competing
#8 Liberty High
The Liberty boys have looked very strong in thier first two meets of the year, finishing second at the Top of the Hill Invite and 3rd at the Eagle Invite. They should easily take control of this race and have the ability to put 3 in the tip 5 and 5 in the top 15. They have averaged around 17:00 minutes for thier 1-5 average this season, about 1:30 faster than the next group of schools. It will be interesting to see where they will end up in the merged results with teams from the Large and Elite Divisions.
The battle for second should be very competitive as four teams, Fallston, Southern-AA, and Francis Scott Key, all have the ability to race well. Southern will look to lean on Pankala and Gavin Tompkins who can both finish top 10 and hope that thier 3-4-5 runners can place high. Fallston and FSK don't have an individual who will battle for a top 5 finish but they do have stronger packs and stronger 4-5 runners.
Individually the race should come down between Eric Penkala of Southern and Gregory Schellberg of Liberty. Penkala ran 15:54 at the Seahawk Invite and Schellberg ran 16:00 at the Eagle Invite. They both are over 40 seconds faster than the next competitor. It should be exciting to watch them duke it out!

GIRLS SMALL PREVIEW
Originally the team battle was supposed to be a close one between Smithsburg and Mt. De Sales. However, De Sales is unable to compete with the new date so this looks like Smithsburg race to lose. They have the ability to put 3 girls in the top 5 with Cora Gentzel, Kayla Hawbecker, and Michaela Gross. If they can do that it will be hard for another team to beat them.
Individually, the race looks like it will be between Genztel, and Leanna Rogers (North East). They both have looked strong to start the season and are only separated by 16 seconds. Abigail Horsman from Patterson Mill ran a very strong league meet last week and may be in the mix for a top 3 finish as well!
Prediction:
Team: Smithsburg
Individual: Leanna Rogers (Northeast)
