Class 1A Girls Preview


Team Preview - The 1A Girls race looks to be a tight 5-team race between Smithsburg, Liberty, Northern Garrett, Harford Tech, and Catoctin. Liberty does not have a dominant number 1 but has a very strong pack and 45-second 1-5 spread. Northern Garrett will lean on Lydia Nelson to be a low stick and try to have their 2-5 run together. Harford Tech may have the best runner in the field in Isabel DeVos, but will struggle a little with their 3-4-5 runners. Catoctin has a strong #1 in Jenna Conley and will hope they can get 4-5 runners closer to her as they have a 1-5 split over 3 mins. 

Of all the teams Smithsburg may end up top as they have a very strong top 3 in Kayla Hawbecker, Cora Gentzel, and Michaela Gross. Those three may place in the top 10. If their 4-5 have a decent day then they should be in a position to take home the title!

Individual Preview - Individually Isabel Devos (Harford Tech) looks to be the favorite. She has run 18:28 for 5k, the fastest time in the field. Cora Genztel (Smithsburg) has run 18:39 and Lydia Nelson (Northern Garrett) has run 19:02. Both will be chasing her and trying to win a state title of her own.
