Class 4A Girls Preview


Team Preview - The 4A Girls race should be a good one with several strong teams. Walter Johnson comes in as the second-ranked team in the state and as the slight favorite. They have recently won the Montgomery County Championship as well as the 4A West Regional. They are led by the Raue sisters who have a strong shot to both place in the top 10. They have run under 20:00 for a 5k average this year so they have the depth as well. Chasing them will be both Frederick and Bethesda Chevy Chase. Frederick finished only 11 points and only 9 seconds when looking at 1-5 average behind WJ at the West Regional. They match up well with them and can definitely make it a close race. They are led by standout Caroline Gregory who has a chance for a top 3 finish individually. BCC won the south division, which is significantly weaker and even sat some of their Varsity girls. They finished 25 points behind the Wildcats at Moco Champs and have the firepower to contend for the win. 

Individual Preview -  There have been few freshmen better than Katrine Morey this season. She has only lost a few times and won both the Montgomery County Championship and the 4A West Regional. She has run under 19 minutes several times and has the ability to do that on Hereford's tough course! Chasing her will be last year's 4A Champ Elena Blodnikar (Leonardtown). Blodnikar has also raced well this year including a blistering 17:58 at the 4A East Regional on Chespeake's super fast course. Also in the lead-pack will be Caroline Gregory (Frederick), Ani Bailin (BCC), and Grace Finnegan (Richard Montgomery)
