Team Preview: The girl's race for the 3A title should be a fun one to watch as Northern Calvert, Howard, and James Hubert Blake are all in the mix. Northern Calvert will enter the meet as the slight favotire. Gentry Bowie has peaked at the right time and will be one of the favorites in both the 800 and 1600 races. Gabby Cope will try to secure her second straight state championship in the shot-put. They will also lean on their relays, which all have the ability to medal. 

Howard will lean on standout sprinter Sydney Rhodes who will be the favorite in the 55m dash and will look to sneak into the top 3 in the 300m dash. The Lions will also look to Claire Sivitz and Kiley Mann in the very competitive distance events to add some team points. 

James Hubert Blake will look to Brooke Cochran who is the favorite in the 300 (and has a chance to break the state record) and she will also be a medal contender in the 55m dash. Sierra Swangin will also be on state record watch in the High Jump as she has jumped 5-06.25 this season. 

Athletes to Watch:

Brooke Cochran (James Hubert Blake) - The elite sprinter will be chasing the state record in the 300 and will also try to win the 55m dash as well. 

Gabby Cope (Northern) vs Emma Reaves (Westminster) - 7 inches separate these two, who are two fo the best throwers in the entire state. Cope has the best season PR at 42-0, compared to Reaves 41-05, however, Reaves threw further at regionals. All eyes will be on these two as they are both 5 feet better than the 3rd place athlete. 

4x800m Relay - Northern Calvert, River Hill, and Severna Park all have the ability to flirt with sub 9:40, which should make for a really exciting race and a great way to start the 3A State meet!

Sierra Swangin (James Hubert Blake) - Swangin has the top high jump mark this year at 5-06.25 and will be gunning for the state record of 5-08. 

Lauren Stine (North Hagerstown) - Stine ran under 11 minutes for 3200 by herself last week at regionals. With competition at states, it will be fun to see how much faster she can run and if she can pull other girls under that 11-minute barrier with her.
