Bayside conference athletes find success at state championship Feb 27, 2013

SALISBURY — While only one Bayside South athlete came home from the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association indoor track championship meet last week with a state title in hand, several other locals had standout performances at the event. Girls Athlete of the Week: Sharon Dorsey, Western Tech, indoor track Feb 26, 2013

The junior long sprinter won two races in record time and anchored the 1,600-meter relay victory in leading Western Tech to a second-place finish in the Class 1A state girls indoor track championships. Dorsey's times in the 500 meters (1 minute, 16.16 seconds) and the 800 meters (2:20.18) were Class 1A records and both were the fastest times run in any classification in last week's state finals. In addition, she joined Tori Taylor, Alexandria Willridge and Jayla Gaines to finish in 10:05.74 in the relay. Dorsey, a second-team All-Metro selection as a freshman, won Baltimore County titles in the 500 and 800, going undefeated against county competition this winter. She has a 3.98 GPA and is drawing attention from such college programs as Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, North Carolina and George Mason. (via baltimoresun.com)

Female Athlete Kaylee Haberkam SCHOOL: Perryville SPORT: Indoor Track EVENTS: High jump, 1,600 and 3,200 meters GRADE: Senior Haberkam scored in all three of her events at the 1A State Indoor Track Meet on Monday at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, totaling eight of the Panther girls’ 11 points. She placed fifth in high jump (4-foot-6), sixth in the 3,200-meter run (12 minutes, 34.57 seconds) and eighth in the 1,600 (5:50.87). (via Cecil Daily)

Boonsboro boys fall just short Feb 22, 2013
