Southern Garrett senior Declan Horner is still the guy to beat at this year's 1A state championships as he has comfortably won all of the team's races out in western Maryland. Patterson Mill's Samuel Brosh, however, took over the top spot in the 1A 5K rankings with a victory at the Harford County Championships last Tuesday. A pair of 1A runners on the eastern shore, Snow Hill's Keegan Gould and Cambridge's Connor McCroy will get a chance to go head-to-head at the Bayside Championships on Wednesday. And Loch Raven senior Garrett Harris turned in a third-place effort at the Baltimore County Championships on Saturday and could be in the mix for a top-three finish at the state meet as well.

As for the team scores, it once again looks like a showdown between last year's champions (Bohemia Manor) and runners-up (Southern Garrett). Juniors Alex Longeway and Zachary Laird will be two of Horner's main challengers as they aim to defend their 2016 team title.
