Any lingering doubt following Ryan Lockett's start to the 2017 season was erased on Saturday when he pulled away from a loaded field at the Montgomery County Championships. Even with another strong 2A field this year it seems like this will be his race to lose on November 11th. A pair of Harford County sophomores, Zachary Taylor and Russell Davis, worked their way into the top ten 2A 5K rankings at the Harford County Championships last week. Three of the top five runners in the 5K rankings (Justin Diehl, Jay Hall and John Dodsworth) will meet on Wednesday at the SMAC Championships.

Justin Diehl and the Calvert boys currently sit atop the 2A team scores after a very impressive showing at the Great American XC Festival where they put seven boys under 17 minutes. They've got both the frontrunners and the depth to be a true contender for the team title this year. 2A powerhouses Liberty and River Hill battled at the Frank Keyser Invitational with the Liberty boys coming out on top by a mere three points; both teams will also be in the mix for what should be a great team competition.
