Taking a Look at New MPSSAA 21-23 Cross Country Realignments

1A Regions

1A West

Boonsboro, one of the most successful 1A programs of the past decade, is back after two years in the 2A classification, further strengthening what could be the strongest region (compared to others in the same classiciation) in the state.

1A North

The three Baltimore County schools that competed in the region in 2019 and 2020 (Loch Raven, Pikesville and Western Tech) have been moved to the 1A South region, making the 1A North region solely comprised of Baltimore City schools (save for the SEED School of Maryland).

1A South

The 1A South region will look very different beginning in the fall of 2021. The three Baltimore County schools mentioned above move in, as well as Carroll County's South Carroll and Francis Scott Key. The losses help combat the loss of many PG County schools that either a) moved up to the 2A classification, such as Friendly and Fairmont Heights, or b) won't field programs, such as the two CMIT academies.

1A East

The only change is the introduction of Fallston, which could immediately compete with 1A powerhouses Boehmia Manor and Cambridge-South Dorchester for the regional titles.
