Week in Review: Maryland HS Cross Country, Oct. 11-16


Meets Earlier in the Week:

Chesapeake Divisional Championships (3 Mile):

C. Milton Wright junior Ashton Tolson finished first in the Boys Varsity race with an astonishing time. Tolson won with a time of 14:56.40, which granted him a lead of 38 seconds. This performance gave Tolson the new course record as he broke it by two seconds. Tolson continues to hold the current No.1 3-mile time in Maryland, and his performance is considered a No.11 all-time 3-mile in Maryland as well.

Bel Air senior Elizabeth Pickett is victorious, finishing first in the Girls Varsity race with a blistering time of 17:39.10. She finished almost an entire minute ahead of the next finisher. 

Susquehanna Division Championships: 

Rising Sun junior Amanda Callaghan became the Girls Varsity Race winner with a time of 21:51.00. Callaghan led her team to victory as Rising Sun scored 28 points.

Patterson Mill boys went 1-2 in the Boys Varsity Race: seniors Berkeley Tisch (18:03.00) and Diego Gonzalez (18:23.00) finished first and second, respectively. Tisch and Gonzalez ended up leading their team to victory with Patterson Mill scoring 18 points. 

Bayside South Division Championships:

James M. Bennett senior Timothy Synowiec had an incredible lead in Boys Varsity Race. Synowiec finished first with a time of 16:26.37, making him the only boy in the meet to run under 17 minutes, as well as giving him a lead of almost two minutes. His performance also served as a course record as he broke the previous record by less than a second. Additionally, he led his team to victory as the James M. Bennett squad took home the top honors with 33 points. 

Stephen Decatur freshman Amber Marshall finished first in the Girls Varsity Race with a time of 23:41.53. 

Bayside North Division Championships: 

Cambridge-South Dorchester senior John Condon was the champion of the Boys Varsity Race with a time of 16:34.00. Condon's amazing performance gave him a lead of almost a minute and a half.

Kent Island junior Sarah van Ornum had an elite performance in the Girls Varsity Race. She finished in a time of 19:26.00, just a second off of an astonishing 3-minute lead. She also led her team to victory as Kent Island scored 31 points.
