Week in Review: Maryland HS Cross Country, Oct. 11-16

Consortia Championships 

The Consortia Championships were hosted by Northwood High School in their own backyard in Silver Spring, Md. There were four races that took place: Boys Varsity; Girls Varsity; Boys JV; and Girls JV. 

Boys Varsity:

For the Boys Varsity Race, Northwood's own Lamar Wilson took the first-place title with a time of 17:02.80. He was followed by Montgomery Blair junior Frederick Alfonso-Frank with a time of 17:13.80. Third place was taken by Springbrook senior Jeriel Williams with a time of 17:22.70. Just a few seconds behind was Albert Einstein junior Ibrahima Cisse with a time of 17:28.80. Fifth was Wheaton junior Matias Ketema in a time of 17:40.00. 

The host team ended up taking the top honors as Northwood, led by Wilson, scored only 47 points. Second was Springbrook (51 points), led by Williams. Third was Albert Einstein (63 points), led by Cisse.

For the Girls Varsity Race, there were two elite performances. The first was by James Hubert Blake senior Ella Zeigler with an astonishing time of 19:27.90. Zeigler ended up taking the individual race title with a 16-second lead. The second elite performance was by Montgomery Blair's Alexa Avila. Avila took second place with a time of 19:43.00 and was the only other girl besides Zeigler to finish in under 20 minutes. Zeigler and Avila dominated the race as they were well ahead of the rest of the pack. Third and fourth place were taken by Northwood athletes: Maya Ducker (21:39.20) and Olivia Rosemond (21:51.50). Fifth was John F. Kennedy's Tessa Miller (23:17.40).

Albert Einstein took home the top honors with 36 points. Montgomery, led by Avila, followed behind with 41 points. Paint Branch was third with 76 points.
