Week in Review: Maryland HS Indoor Track, Jan. 1 to Jan. 9


Around 20 different teams across Maryland came together for 2022 Dwight Scott InvitationalThe meet was hosted at Hagerstown Community College and was one of the first big invitationals in Maryland. 


Sprints

Catoctin's Brody Buffington ran an incredible time of 6.46 to become the first athlete in the state to run an official time under 6.50. He has improved on his own MD #1 in the event. Close behind was South Hagerstown's Cole Schlotterbeck with a new indoor best of 6.55, which is a new MD #2. 

Distance

3200 Meter Run

It was a competitive and tight-knit race for the girls' 3200m run. On the last stretch, it was a clear battle between Linganore's Caroline Perrone and Boonsboro's Caroline Matthews. However, Perrone was able to outkick Matthews for the win. Perrone won the race in a time of 11:37.93, which is an MD #6. Matthews followed in second with a time of 11:39.34, which is an MD #7. Another Linganore athlete made the ranks with Katelin DiFilippis in third with a time of 11:46.15. Her performance makes her the tenth-fastest 3200m runner in the state.

Field Events

High Jump 

Tuscarora's Edwin Niemandt won the high jump event with a mark of 6-0, which is a current MD #2

Pole Vault

Gov. Thomas Johnson's Elisa Ramos has been a strong competitor in the pole vault event all season. At the meet, she improved on her own MD #1 with a new season-best of 11-7.
