2A GIRLS
Team Preview - MD #2 Hereford looks ready to win another State Championship. With 3 strong runners in Sylvia Snider, Estelle Snider, and Rebekka Hillier they have the ability to put 3 in the top 5. Unlike bigger invites they attended during the season where their 4-5 runners made the team battle with other top teams close, Ridley Lentz and Charlotte Levis are projected in the top 20, which should easily give the Bulls the win on their home course.
Battling for second will be Poolesville, North Harford, and Kent Island. Poolesville and Kent Island have strong number 1 runners in Daisy Dastrup and Sarah Van Ornum who both can win the Individual championship and will help their teams with a low score. North Harford's strength comes from a team that can run as a pack and have a lower 1-5 spread. They showed that at the 2A East Regional with a 1:02 1-5 split compared to Kent Islands 4:10. They beat Kent Island by 5 points.
Individual Preview - All three Hereford runners mentioned above have a chance to place top 5 and could possibly win. Of the 3, Sylvia Snider is currently running the best as she won the Baltimore County Championship running 18:42 for 5k. Challenging Hereford's trio will be Daisy Dastrup (Poolesville), Sarah Van Ornum (Kent Island), Erin McQuitty (Middletown), Frankie Moore (Oakland Mills), and Temi Ariyo (Overlea).
Mcquitty, who won the 2A State Championship in 2019, has had a great season and is ready to try to capture a second title. The Senior won the 2A West Regional in 19:36, 28 seconds faster than runner-up Daisy Dastrup.
Ariyo gave Sylvia Snider all she could handle at the Baltimore County Championships, as the two went back and forth to the finish. Snider edged out Ariyo 18:42 to 18:43 for the win. Ariyo most likely surprised a few runners and coaches at that meet as Overlea did not run in many big invites this season. Ariyo easily won the 2A North Regional since Hereford sat their top 3 girls. Look for her to surprise a few more people at States on Saturday.
