3A BOYS
Watch the Boys 3A East Regional come down to the wire with Centennial holding on to 1-2
Team Preview - The battle for 3A looks like it will be between MD #4 Centennial High and MD #2 Towson. Both teams have had excellent post-seasons as the Eagles won the Howard County Championships and the 3A East Regional Championship and the Generals won the Baltimore County Championship and the 3A North Regional. Centennial has the best 1-2 punch in the state in Antonio Camacho Bucks and Sebastian Martinez and may go 1-2 at the state meet. The big question will be how close can Towsons 1-2, Ryan Wahler and Kieran Mischke, get to Centennial's top duo. If they can remain close, it will give Towson the edge. If there are a bunch of runners separating them from Camacho-Bucks and Martinez, Centennial may be hard to beat. This race should be very close and may come down to single-digit points.
Battling for 3rd and hoping to sneak into the top 2 if Centennial or Towson should falter will be Chopticon and Howard High. Chopticon's top runner, Mason Hoover had one of his best races of his season last week winning the 3A South championship. His first-place finish helped lead the Braves to a team championship. The Lions finished second to Centennial at the 3A East Championship, without their #2 runner, Kyle Reardon who was sick. With him back the Lions have a strong pack that could help lead them to a strong place.
Individual Preview - It should be fun to watch if Centennial's top two, Antonio Camacho Bucks and Sebastian Martinez (Centennial) can go 1-2. Northwood HS accomplished this feat a few years back as Obsaa Feda and Eldad Mulugeta went 1-2 at the 4A State Championships. Camacho-Bucks' best race this year came at the Manhattan Invite where he finished an impressive second in a very competitive field. Unfortunately, he was sick for the Howard County Championship and unable to defend his title. He still may have been a little under the weather at the 3A East Regional meet as he finished second and needed a sprint finish to pass a few runners in the last 100m. If he is 100% he has a chance to break the course and state record of 15:34 set by South River's Sam Keeny.
Trying to break those two up will be a variety of runners. Ashton Tolson (C Milton Wright) won the UCBAC and 3A North Championship, edging out Towson's top two, Ryan Wahler and Kieran Mischke. Henry Hopper (Wilde Lake) Christian Brower (Long Reach), Kidus Zeleke (Reservoir), Mason Hoover (Chopticon) Sofiane Compaorg (Springbrook), Colin Abrams (Magruder), and James Partlow (Thomas Johnson) all have the capability of placing top 5.
