Class 2A Girls Preview


Team Preview - The 2A Girls race looks to be a close one between Centennial and Hereford. Both teams have looked strong coming down the stretch. Centennial easily won the Howard County Championships and the 2A West Regional and Hereford won the Baltimore County Championships and the 2A North Regional. Due to that region being one of the weaker ones in the state, Hereford was able to sit most of its Varsity runners and they still went 1-7. Hereford has the stronger 1-2 punch in Rebekka Hillier and Sylvia Snider. Both have looked incredibly strong this season placing high in every meet they have competed at. Riley Herdson is Centennial's #1. She looked amazing at the Great American Invitational earlier this season running 18:53 for 5k, but has not run that strong in her last two meets. If she can run with Hillier and Snider it would be a huge bonus for the Eagles. Centennial, on paper, goes 6-12-13-19 after Herdson while Hereford goes 16-23-24. If Herefords 3-4-5 can run with Centennials pack this will be a very close finish. Huntingtown is looking to try to surprise teams as they are projected third, but it's hard to see anyone else besides Centennial and Hereford taking this one.

Individual Preview - The individual battle will be between the girls mentioned above. Hillier, Snider, and Herdson all have the ability to win this race. Taylor Colson (Century) is also sure to be in the mix. She beat Herdson last week by 24 seconds to win the 2A West Regional. Leanna Rogers (North East) has also had an excellent season and won the 2A East Regional and will look to place high. Due to the home-field advantage, nobody will know the course better than Snider and Hillier so odds have to be on one of them to take this one home.
