Maryland Highlights From AAU Junior Olympics

Day 5 Highlights

  • Riverdale Baptist's Anthony Gordon became a national champion in the steeplechase as the 4:41 miler and 1:58 half miler claimed the AAU Junior Olympic Games title for the 15-16 year old boys in the 2K steeple with an impressive victory in 6:34.94.
  • Quince Orchard rising junior Ashley Seymour rocked her semifinals round of the 100 meter dash for the 15-16 year old girls with the fastest time among all the finals qualifier in 11.77 clocking. Frederick rising sophomore Jaida Smith also made the finals with a personal best clocking of 12.09 as the 7th fastest qualifier.
  • Westlake's Kiara Parker also represented Maryland well as the fastest at AAU Junior Olympics in the girls 100 semis for the 17-18 year old girls with a 11.73 clocking on Wednesday by 4A state champ sprinter. Kyla Lewis from the Bullis School will also join her in the finals after winning her semifinals heat in 11.97.
  • The ISL hurdles champion Lisa-Anne Barrow from Holton-Arms School will compete in the 17-18 year old girls 100 meter hurdles finals after winning her semifinals heat in a 14.34 personal best performance, which ranks her fifth fastest overall.
  • With her range of dabbling in the 300 meter hurdles as well as running the 5K in cross country, South Carroll's Erin Langille was perfect suited to perform well in the 2K steeplechase, which she did with a fourth place finishing time of 7:54.63 in the 17-18 year old girls race.
  • Magruder's Keila Robertson crested over 38 feet for the first time in the triple jump, which helped her earn a third place showing in the 17-18 year old girls competition with a leap of 38'1.25.
  • After being the fastest qualifier in the first round of the 15-16 year old boys 100 meter dash, Eric Allen of the Bullis School slipped to sixth fastest in the semis, but still moves onto the finals with his 10.97 clocking. Eric Harrison from St. John's College just missed the finals as the 9th fastest performer in the semis finishing third in the toughest of the semifinals heats.
  • Allen also will be a finals in the 110 meter hurdles as well as the 8th and final qualifier in a time of 15.17.
  • After earning a medal earlier in the week in the 400 meter hurdles, Baltimore City College's Robert Miller will be competing in the finals of the 110 meter hurdles after winning his heat in 14.19 for the 17-18 year olds.
