Six out of Maryland's seven top quarter-milers from last spring are gone, opening the door for a new group of runners to flood the leaderboard. Only Bullis' Ashton Allen returns with a sub-48 performance, and probably has the best chance at besting Aaron Robinson's MD #1 time from last spring. Richard Montgomery's Seydi Sall was absent for most of the indoor season but had the eighth-fastest freshman time in the country last year.

Others to watch: Only three boys - Ashton Allen, Nick Wilson and Westminster's Troy Johnson - appear on the top ten lists of returners in both the 200 and 400; Eric Allen, Jr. led the state in the 400 this winter, while Milford Mill's Aariq Nixon ran 49.35 at indoor nationals; Brendon Stewart and Aaron Hackett were the top two of eleven runners who ran 35.70 this winter and don't appear on this list. (The others, you ask? Alijah Johnson, Davon Carroll, Khaloni Mganga, Jordan Ross, Nathan Phillips, Colby Owens, Sydney Peal, Malik Prince and Taheer Pierce.)
